Emerging Perspectives

Anya Kalsi

The Hive, Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham

4–14 August 2026

Emerging Perspectives was Anya Kalsi’s debut solo exhibition, bringing together abstract drawing, oil painting, macro photography and spatial installation inspired by close observation of the natural world.

About the Exhibition

Emerging Perspectives

Emerging Perspectives explores the relationship between observation, abstraction and material process through drawing, oil painting, macro photography and installation.

Drawing inspiration from intricate patterns and structures found within the natural world, Anya transforms overlooked details into layered compositions that move between precision and expressive gesture.

Created in response to The Hive’s distinctive architecture and high ceilings, the exhibition encourages audiences to look closely at texture, rhythm and detail, discovering complexity within forms that can easily go unnoticed.

Rooted in curiosity, experimentation and process, the exhibition invites individual interpretation rather than presenting a fixed reading of the work.

From Studio to Exhibition

From Studio to Exhibition

After months of research, making, planning and preparation, Emerging Perspectives brought together large-scale drawing, abstract painting and installation developed through close observation of the natural world.

The exhibition translated Anya’s studio research into a physical environment, allowing individual works to interact with the architecture of The Hive and encouraging visitors to move through the work, look closely and discover connections between material, pattern and form.

Supported by Punch Records

Community Routes

Emerging Perspectives was developed with support and mentorship from Punch Records through its Community Routes programme.

Following the programme, participating artists were invited to pitch projects they wanted to develop further. Five projects led by seven creatives were selected to share £10,000 of project funding, alongside additional support from Punch Records.

Emerging Perspectives was one of the five selected projects.

Response to the Exhibition

Charles Pedone

Following the exhibition preview, Charles Pedone described Emerging Perspectives as a carefully realised exploration of texture, rhythm and material curiosity, highlighting how the work transforms overlooked details from nature into something visually significant.

He particularly noted the strength of Anya’s observational works and the atmospheric piece Ghost Flower, describing the exhibition as evidence of an artist developing a clear visual voice and an exciting trajectory.

Artist

Anya Kalsi

Anya Kalsi is a contemporary artist whose practice explores abstraction through process, observation and material experimentation.

Working across drawing, oil painting and installation, she uses macro photography and close observation to transform overlooked patterns and intricate natural structures into layered abstract compositions.

Her work balances control with spontaneity and encourages viewers to engage closely with texture, rhythm and detail rather than searching for a single fixed interpretation.

The exhibition followed her success at the Derwent Art Prize 2026, where A Glimpse into Echoes of Entanglement received the Young Artist First Prize and was exhibited at OXO Gallery, London.
